When we described the upcoming Axis of Love series to Rhythm Foundation member Veronica Pesantes, she had an amazing idea.

Veronica is one half of the design duo The Onikas. She and partner Jonicka Borrman create the most beautiful accessories – giant scarves, tunics, beach coverups, ponchos – including a line they produce in Jaipur, India.  She said, let’s do a line of merch for the series! Here is a link to their site, that describes the process at the block printing studio – from artisans carving the teak blocks, dying fabrics, and creating the patterns using skills that they call #slowfashion.  It is also the epitome of fair trade.

Now we are anxiously awaiting the samples, which are being made right now. This very chic and limited edition will be for sale on this site, and of course at the Axis of Love concert series.  The Series takes place over 3 Sundays in March, and features beautiful music from hard places, meditative music from the Middle East and Africa. Featured artists include Malian kora player Ballake Sissoko with French cellist Vincent Segal (March 5); Riyaaz Qawwali (meditative sufi devotional chant) (March 12); and Egyptian oud and riqq duo Tarek Abdallah and Adel Shams El Din (March 26).  Buy tickets (and merch when it’s ready) here.

onikas.jpgThe Onikas are globetrotting friends from school who joined forces after years of travel and artistic studies. They have joined forces in a venture that encompasses what brought them together in the very beginning: creativity, travel, meaningful pursuits and serious love of fashion. The Onikas is their love child to you.

This collaboration with Rhythm Foundation is not their first charitable work. They also designed a line of bags for a company that donates all profit to girls education in rural India via an NGO “Educate Girls.” They work with 4000 schools in an effort to keep girls in school. This project is what first took them to India back in 2015. They also did a scarf project for their alma mater The Ursuline Academy of Dallas, once again benefiting girls education.

You are going to LOVE the Axis of Love scarves, and the beautiful concert series.
