View fullsize We ♥️ our friends over at @olympiaartsmiami • • • • via @accidentallywesanderson “With a cacophony of applause filling the theater chambers, an 87-year-old philanthropist took center stage on an October evening in 1972. “Friends,” the man began, “this is the happiest day of my life.” It was a triumphant moment for Maurice Gusman, as the night was a celebration of his gift for the city of Miami: the newly renovated Olympia Theater. • Surrounding patrons with a twinkle of stars and an intricately carved Moorish-style courtyard, the grand space opened in 1925 as a silent movie house in downtown Miami. The Olympia was able to navigate the changing tastes of the early to mid 20th century, introducing talking pictures and Vaudeville acts, hosting the Marx Brothers, and even bringing in the likes of Elvis Presley to much fanfare. • However, by the late 1960s, the theater’s Olympus-like stature in the city had fallen,

View fullsize In response to the tragic Surfside disaster, Bandshell Park in Miami Beach has been designated as a support location for the relief efforts. Considering this need, the Seaside Summer July performing arts celebration presented by The Rhythm Foundation has been required to relocate, postpone or cancel all scheduled performances from the venue. In coordination with the participating cultural partners, new locations and dates have been secured for the majority of performances with minimal cancellations. The Rhythm Foundation looks forward to 2022 to bring back Seaside Summer. Highlighting Miami Beach’s North Beach neighborhood as a family-friendly summer cultural destination, in partnership with the district’s hotel and hospitality amenities. Becoming an annual apex in South Florida's cultural calendar and bringing world-class concerts and special events to North Beach. This future funk collective will have your New Year’s music loving plans covered on Friday, December 31st and Saturday, January 1st. Tickets for both performances are on sale now. . Funk lives, grows, breathes, and blossoms. Like any living thing, it needs to be fed in order to flourish. This band continues to push the boundaries and crafts a sound that differs from any traditional or commercial resonance, yet it appeals to anyone and everyone who listens.
